MICHAEL MARQUEZ ARCHITECTS
This project is situated on a narrow pad with a long axis
toward a steep slope at the rear of the house in the "Bird"
streets overlooking Sunset Boulevard. Two towers were
inserted into the system connected by a gallery. This created
a strong axial motive to the rear of the home where the
principle public spaces are located for the major views and
light.
The general massing breaks the house into three main
bodies, the major form is represented by the extrusion of an
arc in elevation, which further reinforces the main axis, but
at the same time provides a foil against which the more
orthogonal forms are able to engage. The two towers then,
secondarily, mark the moment of engagement as an event
plus achieves programmatic desire for notated circulation
and navigation.
